Salvage is a chronological story in the episodic Infinite Wild series. It will be most enjoyable if you start from the beginning. To start with the first story from the currents of Infinite Wild, click here.
Sustenance swayed in slow space on its anchor beside the current and Noah’s eyes traced the projection screen in the Costa Feed Viamorr Team’s storage hold headquarters.
“So you’re sure you want to use up all your goodwill with the Malik to go… antiquing?” asked Noah. “I mean, I’ll support my guys I just gotta be sure that you’re sure.”
Warui defended his plan. “Only a mzungu would ignore so much free stuff. This eddy flooded two days ago, there will be parts. Free parts.”
“Will it make us faster?” asked Noah.
“How can I answer that without going there?” said Warui.
“Fair enough, fair enough.” said Noah, holding up his hands. “It’s your call, Mech, I trust ya.”
“We’re already anchored. It’s a short float in and out. Let’s go.” said Warui.
“Viamorrs?” Noah tipped his head to Maryna and Gabriel.
“Flows look good to me.” said Maryna. “I’ll get us a route. I like a little antiquing.”
“How do we get any salvage out?” asked Gabriel. “I can barely fit myself in my bonnie.”
“Same way we get anything out of the currents.” said Noah. “Tow it, swing it, sling it. We got grappling lines for more than rescues. Despite my elegant pretentious personality, this ain’t the first time I’ve had to dig through a salvage eddy.”
“Anything to be wary of?” asked Gabriel. “This is my first time stealing.”
“It’s not stealing.” said Warui. “It’s salvage.”
“If we find it in the eddy, it’s ours.” said Noah. “Even the Current Accords agree.”
“Since when did you start following the Current Accords?” asked Warui.
“Since they agreed with me on salvage.” said Noah.
“We should probably warn him.” said Maryna. She sheathed a knife in the top of her boot for emphasis.
“Nope.” said Warui.
“Nah.” said Noah.
“Warn me about what?” asked Gabriel.
“Your boys aren’t telling you everything.” said Maryna. “Salvage includes people. Hostages. Ransom. Legal kidnapping.”
“The Malik will not let us bring back anyone for ransom.” said Gabriel.
“We’re not bringing anyone back for ransom.” said Noah. “It’s you they’ll want.”
“Me?” asked Gabriel. “Why me?”
“You’re a prince.” said Maryna. “I think they’d rather have you than me. Flow born prince and all that. Way more valuable.”
“Good thing I’m fast in a bonnie.” said Gabriel.
“Save some troller fuel, little bro.” said Warui.
“Don’t get out of your bonnie.” said Maryna.
“Yeah, I don’t think we have the money to buy you back.” said Noah.
Gabriel gulped and held his head up in a calm defiance. “I’m flow born. They’ll never catch me.”
“Mech, cover our sponsor names on the bonnies.” said Noah. “Let’s not make our scout an easy target for the scavengers.”
